Steps for getting a paper ready for publication (drafted by Lance Carnes, 1/6/06)

  • Solicit and receive a draft
  • Send the paper to reviewers, to determine if it's appropriate for the Journal and to get some feedback on parts of the paper that can be made clearer. Some reviewer contacts are listed in the attached file.
  • Send the reviewer comments to the author, and be sure to disguise who the reviewers are. Try to collect several reviews and send them all at once unless some are taking too long.
  • The authors may want to discuss the reviewer comments with you, or perhaps send a question back to the reviewer. Again, be sure to disguise the reviewer's name.
  • Repeat these steps until the paper is ready for publication.
  • Have the author send a brief biography and their contact email or url. If their paper doesn't have an abstract, ask them to supply one. For an example, see http://tug.org/pracjourn/2005-1/hefferon/
  • Proofread the paper at the staging web site http://dw.tug.org/pracjourn/. You can do some of this, and also invite Editorial Board members to proofread and check for correct LaTeX or TeX usage. We have a list of volunteer proofreaders also.
